after you restore your ipod there should be a option where you can update your ipod when it is connected. I had to same problem with ipod at first but now it works. Everytime I hook up my ipod it updates it which includes adding the recently downloaded songs on my pc.

hope this helps!!!

That sounds like something is wrong with your ipod. All i do is connect mine and it update automatically. Is your ipod all up to date with the apple updates? And is your itunes up todate. That may fix kinks.
