yes if you want because you're connecting via external modem through your NIC (network interface card) however there's no reason to do so. leaving it enabled will allow you to go dialup if you have a problem with the dsl... it's a good backup...

Yes, you get to the Internet through DSL modem not regular modem. I have cable and modem I use only to send fax not to get to the Internet.

You could even remove it from your PC and never need it again, as long as you stick with broadband (DSL, cable, etc.).
I did this on my HP to free up a PCI slot.

you don't have to disable it. if you want to just go to Device Manager and right mouse click on the modem and select disable this device...
