I've also tried it on the the game as well (game options/settings) but the only box that is available is the 800x600 setting. I would like it to be bigger. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Custom install is anything and everything you want to be in the game, if you dont like a part, then at the installation, dont install it.

Typical/standard install installs all game aspects and all game related stuff to the game.
You should be able to change the screen settings somehow. If the game goes to hwere it is taking up your screen and you have to quit to get out of there then that is full screen mode.

Custom install just installs sections that you want to install, standard installment installs everything naturally, its better to select this option.

As for screen resolution I'm pretty sure it's in the game settings, look at the options in the actual game, rather than changing the options on your computer, because that does nothing.

Uninstalling the game, yes you will lose all your savings (people, houses, etc.) a handy tip is if you have a large enough blank disk, simply copy the settings in your sims folder, load on the new Sims, and paste them back on. It works, I've done it many times.

Usually screen settings for video games are within the video game options themselves. Open up the Sims and check for Game Options or something along those lines. Usually it's listed under Video Resolution.

Also, the difference between Typical and Custom is typical will install the typical settings you need, and custom allows you to pick and choose the stuff you think you need (it's a little more advanced sometimes).

If you uninstall, I think you might lose all your settings too.

Good luck.
