It can be between $6000 and $10,000 depending on where you go...and you have taken a specific amount of hours according to your state mandate.

It can be a rewarding and lucrative career...I worked at a casino/resort in Vegas and made great money. Sure, there are some weirdo's out there ( I believe an inordinate number visit Vegas specifically ; ) ) but as a rule, people are generally genuine in their desire to feel better.

I have been a Massage Therapist since 2000. I am certified in a number of massage modalities. At the time I got my schooling in HI & NJ, the approx. cost was $7000.

The prerequisites I tell all prospective massage students is the following:

First, "You gotta have the want to". Meaning that you have to have the inner drive to want to help people. If you are going into it just to make money, look into other types of training, because you will burnout right away, because being an MT isn't your average 9-5 job.

Secondly, prepare to be a "professional student", because you will need to know almost as much as doctor does about the human body. When a client of yours asks to work on a certain muscle or asks you why a certain muscle hurts, if you don't know what you are talking about, you will at the least sound uninformed and at the worst, you will lose that client and will probably never get any others, because "people talk". Think about it, when you want to get recommendations, who do you talk to?

So, you can't fake it when you are working on or with the human body. Besides, there is too much mediocrity out there all ready.

Besides Anatomy & Phisiology, you will also have to master massage theory, techniques, history, contraindications, physical assesment, as well as Business Law, Record Keeping, Ethics and Traditional Oriental Medicine concepts.

Then be tested upon all of the above not only by the school you are attending, but also by a State and in some states a National massage board.

If you are ready, willing and able to complete all of the above, then have at it !!

I paid about $10,000, plus I bought a table, massage chair and linens. After school there are licensing fees, certification costs, liability insurance and continuing education classes. For the most part, I find it very rewarding. As with any career, there are frustrations. If you go into it thinking you'll make a lot of money, that is the wrong reason, you really do have to enjoy doing it.

To become a registered massage therapist, and not just masseur, you'll be looking about 20 K CDN per year (at least that is what it is in canada). It can be rewarding if that is what you like to do. you can change your office hours, work out of your own home, your skills are mobile, and you can make good money. We hired a therapist and in her first year she made over 50K. So the payoffs are there if you like the work.

One word of warning, their careers are not always lifelong do to the physicality of the job, but that depends how hard you work etc

Probably about 500. You can learn that by taking one class or two. One to learn about messages and one to learn about the human antatomy. Another to learn about problems of tensions. I would say roughly 2K
