People, people, people! Calm down! She has chosen India for shopping because India is extremely rich with beautiful clothing (western and traditional) and jewlery and such. Ignore the rude answers you've received, Naz; they just don't know anything besides their own culture/region.
Well, I'm not from India, but I've tons of friends from India. And every time they visit the country, their number one place for shopping and fun is Bombay/Mumbai, they say. Any popular city in India is great for clothes and jewlery, so it's totally up to you! But I'd still choose Bombay (and/or New Delhi)!
Enjoy your visit, and I pray you reach safely and come back safely!

if you still want to come, then stop over at Mumbai. Go to Peddar road or Warden road in south Mumbai there a quite a few boutique's with real good designer clothes. Then there's Sheetal's at Grant Road and Ensemble near the Taj hotel.
