We aren't meant to be this way. We aren't meant to try to live, try to be happy and stuff like that. Its only that way because of human sin. From Adam and Eve eating of the fruit. So no, I do not think we are slaves of our hormones. We are just sinners.

Our hormones don't control our brain. They are a bi-product of chemical messages. I know that in high school science class they teach you that a hormone IS a chemical message, but it's not that simple. A chemical message is ruled by electrical impulses, not hormones. Hormones come from chemicals, and electric charges in our brains, so how can they control their own creators? What we ARE slaves to is our senses. You sit there and read this, but how do you know your eyes aren't deceiving you? You have no conscious control over what your eyes see, your ears hear, yous skin feels and your nose smells, mouth tastes, none of it. And we don't have anything that can give you control over them. But we do have control over our hormones, drugs exist that can wipe out the hormones you have right now and replace them with others. No one can decide they ways in which their brain will interpret the signals coming from our sensory organs.

What is mind? Is it our consciousness or is it or biology? Why not both? There are several meditative practices which actively and empirically provably change ones brain state. Does not this prove that our consciousness can indeed overcome our brain chemistry? but then often we do have natural intuition and instincts. so I say it is a two way street, it just depends on the situation as to what is in con troll of our body.

The applied knowledge of Yoga brings mastery over Body (Hormones), Mind and Soul.
Yoga means to 'yoke or unite' body, mind, soul with Spirit which equals Freedom from Time, Space, Aging and Death.

Certainly our hormones influence much of how we think, and what decisions we make in life . You also have to take in account experience. Much of what learn is by trial and error . We learn from our mistakes . Suppose you decided to have sex with a stranger . Afterwords you found out you had been infected with a SD. Provided you survived you would think at least twice . Before having sex with another stranger .

Our basic instincts surely dictate how we should behave.
Among the most strong is the reproduction instinct, since very early, girls start being interested in boys, boys start a bit later.
The attraction in undeniable and without one knowing it its clearly headed and directed by nature toward reproduction.
In the animal kingdom, Humans basically need BOTH parents to take care of the newborn same as penguins, lions, eagles, kalaos etc. and unlike bears, panthers, cats, dogs etc. in which ONLY the mother takes on this responsibility.
So its necessary for the Human Female, after selecting the best apparent candidate, (healthy, intelligent, good worker, good looking, mentally balanced etc.) and convince or conquer him, so to procreate good healthy descendants between the two.
Nevertheless in modern times many female humans have kind of lost the good natural instinct to select the Best Candidate and frequently choose loosers, hippies, drug adicts, drunks and young men with no studies nor future, who only like Hard Rock and booze.
Once this primary basic instinct has been fulfilled and the descendants have grown up well taken care of, in food, dress, schooling, house, medical attention etc. etc. both male and female, with age, loose their sexual desire for one another, also guided by nature, due that procreation after 50 years of age the possibility of a good healthy descendant diminishes and nature knows this, and guides your life even in bed.
So after 50 or 60 years the intelligent thing, is to be, good partners, friends and company and both will have lead a happy healthy fruitfull life.
¡You are right! and the above is only one example of your interesting question and how nature guides ones life in this sense, as in ALL OTHERS.

I think hormones are part of it, but life experience also plays a part. That's not so much hormones as chemical storage of memories. I can feel the same anger tomorrow, but I will not act on it because I know the consequences are severe.

What about those people who choose to suffer and/or die for other people, for a cause/ideal, or for an accomplishment? There are people who consciously decided to act against their own best interests. Further, any person who has fought against addiction has acted against the impulses of their hormones. Many allow themselves to be slaves to their hormones/impulses, but no one has to be. If we have no control, it is because we have relinquished it.

I agree with some of what you're saying.
But you can't just give in to your hormones all the time.
That means every time you see an item of clothing you liked, you'd dip into your purse and buy it.
Every time you spotted a guy you liked, you'd run up to him and smother him with kisses. Doesn't make sense.
Every body controls their hormones to a certain extent. I suspect you do too, it's just that you're not aware of it.
