I recommend anything by Bill Bryson. He reads his own books and has a very soothing voice. I also like Sarah Vowell's books. She was the voice of Violet in The Incredibles, so some people might be annoyed...

I listened to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil on cd and it was really good. It was perfect for a road trip (a little over 3 hours) and at the end they had an interview with the author that was really interesting. The book was based ona true story and turned into a movie. Its a fun listen :)
