Go get a job at a clinic and study while you work. Make sure the vets know that you are studying to be an assistant and maybe when you are done they will hire you on as an assistant or they can write you a letter of recommendation to someone that will. Plus. working while you study the material is will really help your comprehension of the books.

Hello,
Yes, you can become a Vet Assistant without schooling, if you can find a Vet that will train you.
But I suggest you go to school and become a licenced Vet Assistant, or a Certified Vet Tech, you will be able to work in any Vets Office with either of these 2 certificates.

{7. How can I become licensed without going to school?
In most states you can’t become credentialed without graduating from an accredited veterinary technology program. A very few states currently have an "alternate route" that allows people to sit for the exam, however there are a number of prerequisites that must be met before taking the exam. In 2000 there was a ruling by the Association of American Veterinary State Boards that within ten years they will no longer allow the National Veterinary Technician Exam to be used under these circumstances.

If you are in a position to attend a veterinary technology program in your state it is well worth the effort. The amount of knowledge behind the skills you already know will astound you. If you can’t physically get to a program there are five Distance Learning Programs that are currently accredited by the AVMA that can be taken via the Internet.}

You need to first start out as a kennel assistant working for a vet. Some vet clinics have a program where you learn to be a vet assistant while working at their clinic. My friend had a 18 month program- is now an assistant working on getting to a vet tech.
I am confused about you saying learning on your own- you need to take some sort of classes to be qualified, and then work clinic hours before you can even take the test.

It sounds like you have a disablility of some sort. Since you are having problems with what you are reading, you can do one of two things or both. Both would be best. You can read a little (not a whold bunch) and then stop and think about what you have read. Do this continuously throughout your reading. The next thing you could do is; if you have a tape recorder and tape, turn it on and read aloud. Once you have finished what you are suppose to read, play the tape back to you. You are no longer reading. The tape recorder is now reading to you.

As far as whether or not a vet will hire you after you have finished your course, keep your chin up. Think positive. You'll be hired by one. If you are cutting yourself down because of doubts, this shows through and so you have to stay upbeat. People that cut themselves down have a harder time finding jobs as well as socializing. So don't do that!

Hands on experience is the best. It is a good idea to work for a vet in a clinic. And most vets like to have students because they can train them like they want and teach them and hope you will stay on after graduating. Find a good one that will work with you and your schedule and that likes to teach. Good Luck you'll love your job.

It relies upon on the hospital you wind up working at, and it relies upon on the state you reside in. there's a technical distinction between an assistant and a technician. In some states that's a criminal distinction. An assistant may well be to blame for restraint, cleansing, prepping rooms, reception artwork, and a few customer guidance. A technician will draw blood, place IV catheters, carry out lab artwork, furnish anesthesia and help in surgical treatment, carry out info, take radiographs, coach shoppers. Neither record is finished, notwithstanding it components a concept of the obtainable distinction in household initiatives.
