quickly degrade to insults and disparaging comments about liberals? I enjoy a good political debate but if you're just going to resort to insults and generalizations, count me out. And FYI, I lean both ways depending upon the issue, I don't blindly follow the party lines.
Will you prove me wrong?

Well said Akkita. I would also like to see a debate without insults and with well thought out points of view or facts that I haven't yet considered. I can admit when I'm wrong or when I don't have enough information to make an informed decision. And, yes, I should have included liberals in this question but I've only been reading this morning's Q's and A's. There seems to be more mudslinging from the right this morning. Sorry, I don't come here very often.

The reason the mudslinging is greater could be because the divide between the parties is greater than is was twenty years ago. The religious right has a much greater influence in the party now than it used to. That's why I can't fully support it.

It's a mud-slinging fest in YA every day. Both sides do it, but what you've seen today (an abundance of "conservative" stone throwing) is typical of YA. I don't really think of them as conservatives, as many conservatives are just as disturbed by this war and Bush's policies as are liberals. They are the hard core Bushie group, who follow the President's lead without ever questioning his reasoning. Of course there are also extremist leftists, who call for Bush to be hanged like Saddam and call him a terrorist. Sometimes its hard to find the serious questioners/answerers who aren't flailing about in extremism, but they are here!

You need to read the liberal lines around here and tell me if you see a difference.
Both conservatives and liberals do the same thing.
"And FYI, I lean both ways depending upon the issue, I don't blindly follow the party lines."
If that is true you should ask liberals the same question.
Key word "IF" which somehow I do believe you are just baiting a question.

Could it be that you are stereotype all conservatives ?
I try very hard to stick to the issue and leave remarks to the issue at hand not the person making them. I attempt to back up my point of view with facts and at times am called some rather nasty names by person's that state "their opinion is their right". That remark seems a bit close minded - I could be wrong.
My one wish in a debate would be to hear both sides without insults . It may not change my opinion but it shows me the other side is willing to listen and maybe we can compromise.

Liberals have not done anything to prove to me that they are above resorting to the same tactics. Also, libs nor cons show much restraint when it comes to politicizing any number of events that may be positive or negative for our country. Mud slinging has risen steadily over the past three decades, and there are no signs of it stopping anytime soon.

I think much of it is due to the fact that there is no point to civilized debate. I can use all the facts and reason and logic in the world to debate an issue, and all I get in response is "Bush is a Nazi", or "Big business is evil".
After a while, it is easy to loose patience with trying to use logic to debates idiots, and simply to resort to calling them such.

I'm thinking you are a bit biased with your opinion that conservatives are the only ones that do this.
Just depends on the time of day.
Basically, I agree with you, that it is getting harder and harder to find a question worth answering, but they are still around.
The reasons for the greater divide have nothing to do with the religious right. Their views haven't changed one bit in the last 20 years.
The difference is in our social morality, which has changed in the last 20 years. Do not blame the divide on Christians. We haven't changed.

I have already asked this question and I am a conservative what I realize if you are too polite the liberals will continually bad mouth you, so unlike Bush who sits there and take it. I will be like Clinton and Donald Trump who will dish it out with the best of them but with facts of course

You seriously don't notice all the hateful Liberals bashing CONservatism? Using Neocon as an epithet? And making personal attacks against the President of the United States AND his family?
There's PLENTY of insults and generalization to go around. And you know what they say, 'what goes around, COMES around'. So don't complain until you clean up your OWN acts.

Everyone at some point on here has lowered themselves to name calling, including myself. It is hard not to when you get it right back at you.
All we can do is try to be a civil to each other as possible.

You could ask the same about liberals, most people don't want debate, they are herd animals and as such, blindly follow.
