If you wish to be supportive talk to him about what he want's to do while visiting. If it includes clubbing it's his decision. He has a sponsor/s if he needs help in staying off the juice or drugs. It is the sponsors support that gives most alcoholics and druggies the will power to stay clean. The best advice I can give you is that you talk with him openly about where he is in his 12 steps and what he wants to do or avoid.

Try cooking special dinners at home, go to coffee shops, visit museums, plays, movies. There is a lot you can do that does not involve alcohol. And when he's here don't act like it's a crutch, be supportive about it without putting so much emphasis on in. Hey try bowling and goof around.

Have you tried seeing if any of your other friends may want to get together and play cards? Have soda's, sandwiches, chips and dip ready and play your hearts out. Go to the movies, sit as home and chat, go to a family place that has dancing....there are several around here that have family dancing and no alcohol is allowed. Wait and ask him what he wants to do. There are many ways to be supportive....communicate with him.

Hey, I applaud you for being a supportive friend, not everyone is that considerate. In addition to the movies I would suggest calling your local AA and ask them for some ideas. They may even have some activities going on for their members you and your friend could attend if you wanted to. Any tourist attractions in your city would be fun too.

Take him to points of interest in your city. Show off your town, like museums or galleries. See a movie or a show. Ask your friend what he'd like to do. It's important that you support him, but don't treat him like he's a child and needs to be saved.

Ask him what he wants to do. Go to a movie and there should be pool houses around where alcohol is not allowed at all.

You have already answered your own question! Be supportive, and encourage him as much as you can. When you go to restaurants, most serve alcohol this can't be avoided and you will get used to it, just as he will.

Everything other than going to night clubs and bars.
You can dance in your living-room,zoo,museum,movies,workouts, run, hike, bike, paddle ski, drive, skydive, and just about everything. Just don't visit your family, for some reason I think they live in a bar.
