My mother always taught me that if you don't ask, the answer is automatically 'no'.

A freind shared this insight with me about 10 years ago. "Do what you can and can what you can't." Words to live by.

"You just gotta remember that everyone is just doing the best that they know how to at the time...."

That really helped me put things in perspective and not be so hard on myself or others.

When people are dysfunctional, it's usually because they don't know any "better" thing to do, or that they don't have faith that anything else will "work". The most you can do is to do the best that YOU know how to (even if that is merely avoiding people making unhealthy choices).

I'm open to that point of view being totally wrong... but the advice really helped me get thru a rough period where I was mad at myself, hurt, depressed, and angry at others.

Follow your gut instinct. It will never lead you wrong.

Another one is What goes around, comes around.

I'm almost 40 and know for a fact that these two statements are true and I only wish I would have known how factual they were 20 years ago.

My former tutor said that:

"Worrying is like a rocking chair, it keeps you moving but it brings you nowhere."

Hence, instead of worrying unnecessarily of what the future may bring, I try to keep a clear head and focus on what is important at present. It does make me more hopeful of life.

Enjoy your kids while they are little. The housework will always be there & it's more important to build your relationship with the kids beginning when they are very young.

I took it and don't regret it.
