Sorry guys - I am not pure British but I do not see why any general question should be only for one nationality to ask answer or ignore - this is a public forum and public debate there shall be!
I think the reason there is still a monarchy is because the only time in history when there was an uprising against the monarchy, the rising was eventually overturned and replaced with a gradual change that led to the powerless figurehead monarchy we have today.
Personally I like the idea of having some kind of mass-vote (once every 10 years) about which of the top 10 next-in-line to put into which order, who should overtake who, and who shall we put into 10th place who was not previously on this list at all.
But like the Euro and all change, the mass public is unlikely to accept any change because they hate change.

The Russian royals were not by any stretch of the imagination like our royals, neither were the Russian people like our people. Before you allow such ignorant talk to come from your mouth, you really should read up a little about the subject and the background history to such a tragic event. Also the even more tragic circumstances that the Russian people have found themselves in since the demise of their Royal family. In this country we do not "do in " people, especially those we like. However, we are somewhat adverse to ignorant out-siders telling us what to do, and we are known not to deal lightly with such an entity. So I will suggest to you that you get off our answers site, to-gether with your crude language and obtuse questions, at least until such time that you are able to contribute to it in an intelligent and useful manner.

I agree, they seem to be a little anacronistic, although i think they make us a little bit different and they don't really do anyone any harm, they're quite cute really. So i think We'll keep them for a little while yet. They are a little bit un-touchable though, i'd prefer our royal family to be a little bit more like the Dutch's, their Queen rides around Amsterdam on a bike, probably with a big spliff hanging out of her gob....
Whilst in Edinburgh a few years back the Queen, in her chauffer driven car pulled up to a red light and stopped right next to our taxi, we were so close we could have touched her! so of course we gave her a wave and the thumbs up and she looked at us....... and didn't bat an eyelid or acknowledge our presence in any way...what class, superb! I like the Queen and Charlie and Billy boy, Phil the Greek is a scream - absolutely barking he is. I would, however, like to do a DNA test on little Harrers. I've a suspicion that his old lady was knocking around with Hewitt 9 months before he popped out. Know what i mean? have you seen the two of them - they're doppelgangers!!
Anyway, we haven't 'done our royals in' 'cos we like 'em (most of 'em anyway, the minor ones like Princess michael of kent can eff off, and i've heard randy Andy is a bit of a cnut).

well they did already ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Charles_the_First_of_England
the royals are ok ... I really wouldn't like to live the lives they do .. with people who do not know them condemning them for no real reason.
They create more income for Great Britain than what they actually cost the public
AND i am no royalist.
EDIT :
just in regards to the people that have mentioned DNA tests and that they should be carried out on the Royal Family ..
see the links below :)

Doing anyone in is an indication that you have no valid arguments against what they represent.
The problem is not any holder of a position but the institution of the monarchy How would murder add anything to the argument?

They bring in revenue - yanks come over to London, spend money in hotels and gaze in sheer jealousy that we have a monarchy, a long, rich history, and architecture to die for. When you meet Royalty, they have an 'aura', a glow of absolute beauty and serenity that someone like you would never even be able to comprehend, let alone aspire to.
And really, what HAS it got to do with you?

Oh my, are you angry at them for some reason? Why would you do away with a monarchy that has been around for centuries? It is British tradition, heritage and history and as an American I envy the British citizens for all of that tradition , which is still carried on to this day. If not for royalty British tourism would hardly exist, who built the castles, the tower, donated to the museums??? The royals. I believe people in general are fascinated with Royalty. Instead of bashing, sit down and read a book about them, read about Henry VIII and Tudor history it is fascinating. Then go on to read about those that followed him to the throne, their struggle, turmoil and you may open yours eyes as to why the tradition of royalty should carry on. Long live the Queen and whoever follows her.

I would like to see a British republic. However much I may dislike the institution of monarchy I have no less respect for them as human beings. The institution needs to go, not the people. I've never met any of them and I'm sure that essentially they are the same as the rest of us, basically decent people, no better and no worse.

firstly, if the question is addressed to the UK, they are not even OUR royal family . They are the German Royal Family, the house of Battenberg. And that old Greek guy- what's THAT all about?
Harry is an interesting point. I think the entire royal family should be made to undergo DNA testing because there there would be many surprises I think.
Yes we could be like nearly every other country in Europe I suppose. But I quite like how the Dutch treat THEIR royalty ( who are loved and respected, incidentally). They cycle about on rusty old bicycles.
Just wait till we get King William on the throne, you yankees will be as jealous as hell!!
