Heat you drill bit.
It with help prevent the glass from shattering. Use a very small bit to start, and GO SLOW. Practice on something first though.

Making a lamp?
A diamond drill bit made specifically for glass and tile. It has bits of industrial grade diamond at the tip. Ask about it in the harware store or home improvement store. They will know exactly what you need.
You will also need a good variable speed drill. It will take a while to get through the bottle. You'll have to go slow so it has less of a chance of breaking. Good Luck!

For that you would need a drill press and a bit for ceramics or glass. Put the bottle in a vice clamp to hold it , mark the spot to drill, put on your safety goggles, and drill it carefully. OR, you could use a dremel tool but be sure to get a bit for drilling tile or glass.

make a cradle using two pieces of wood to stabilize the bottle and then using a glass bit in variable speed drill, slowly drill into it. if you have access to a drill press, place the bottle below the drill in a cradle...
