Alright, this will sound incredibly lame. I just made a group of friends, which is a big deal to me because I'm a complete loser and don't ever have any friends. Problem is, they're all crazy about anime. I like anime, but I don't know much about it. Can anyone give me any links to sites that talk about anime? Please? *gives puppy-dog eyes*

If you just want to be able to browse titles and see what those shows are about, try this site:

There's so much you might want to find out what kind of stuff they're into- comedies, High school, sci-fi etc...

You can always ask THEM what they like and then research the shows if it means that much to you. Anime covers a broad variety of content. They might like anime that is popular in Japan or maybe they just watch what is on Adult Swim, which is pretty behind in the anime time-line (e.g. they just started showing Bleach, and that show already has 100+ episodes so it has been around for a while). I think if they were really your friends they'd be a little sensitive to the fact that you're just learning and talk about it with you if you wanted to learn. I am a closet anime fan, so my two cents would be to look at some anime movies as well. I love Miyazaki's work (he's a director) and watching Akira is an anime must. Good luck.

This answer will sound lamer, but you don't have to know a lot about anime to be friends with anime-crazy friends.

I like anime. I used to have some friends in my old school who loved anime and were seriously into the fandom. At first I felt a bit pressured to know as much as they did, but in time I realized that I didn't have to know very much to be friends with them.

Sometimes one of them will introduce you to a good anime/manga series that will really get your attention. For me, it was FMA.

If you must, try http://anipike.com--a warning though, that site is VERY Americanized, and most anime fans kind of dislike "Americanized" anime stuff.

My favorite animes are Cowboy Beebop, Witch Hunter Robin, and Full Metal Alchemest. If you look those up on youtube or somthing and watch a couple episodes you can at least grasp the basic concept and have somthing to talk about.

I'm a fan of anime, but it creeps me out when people are too obsessed with it. There are tons of anime out there and it covers a wide range of subject matter from cutesy shows for kids to perverted stuff for adults. Talk to your friends about what they like, so you know their taste in anime. Do they like serious things or comedy? There tons of internet sites dedicated to anime and manga. Of course, the best way to know about anime is to watch some yourself.

On your cable system, go to the ON DEMAND portion.

Many have free showings of a lot of anime, so you can see what the buzz is.

Also, Cartoon Network shows a lot of them on Saturdays
