I cant seem to get any discs to work in my disc drive. When I put the disc in, nothing happens. Not just for DVDs, installation discs dont work either. How can I diagnose the problem and fix it?

this will be a hard problem,my old CD-ROM was dead cant read any type of CDs the lens was dead.
u may disabled the usage of the drive, check that in the device manager"control panel-->system-->hardware-->device manager"
or shutdown the PC ad open the Ur case and make sure that all cables r connected well to the DVD-ROM.and try.or check the auto run feature.

if these all things didn't make it,so the lens may be dead like what happened with me or need cleaning.put a CD cleaner in the drive and leave it to spin inside and then try a DVD.
if it didnt work also so ur lens is dead and u may be able to change the drive if it is under warranty, but the better is to buy a new drive if it is and out of warranty.or u may be able to chang the lens only.

sounds like either the lense is dirty, cables loose behind the drive or drive is knackers. turn computer off, open is up and check cables pushed in firmly then reboot. if this not it id say but a new DVD drive - they are only £30 or so

You might need to open up the case, and reseat the cables going to the drive, if that doesn't work, then see if you can find someone with an extra drive that you can swap out to test it.
