Its a very expensive, exquisitely soft, beautiful sweater that was a gift from my mother in law. I only wore it once when I got it caught on a nail and ripped the sleeve. It IS worth the expense and effort to me.

A lot of dry cleaners will do repairs, but it can be very expensive if they have to re-weave it - I forget exactly how much it was, but years ago I asked about having a hole repaired in my favorite sweater and it was astronomical, way cheaper to go buy a new one! Depends on where the hole is and how big, but you may be able to sew it up yourself.

To your Mom. Failing that, try and remember what she used to do with them. Failing that, get inventive with some wool and a darning needle. Sweaters with homely-looking mended holes are really it this year.

Trash it, and get a new one. It's not worth the trouble and cost.
