I sleep for less than 6 hours a night. I do it because I have a husband, kids, pets, garden & house, & studies that all need attention. I sometimes get a bit tired towards midnight but all morning, day & night I am very awake & full of energy. Is this normal? What about you?

I feel like I have the most energy when I sleep 5-6 hours. Lately I have been sleeping for 8-12 hours and I feel lazy and unmotivated and even tired on those days. They say 8 hours is what most adults need but I disagree..I am charged and energetic on days that I only get 5-6 hours of sleep. It is different because they say that adults that sleep more live longer..I have to wonder why when I feel tired after sleeping the standard.

I have a 2 year old, a 5 month old and a husband that gets up for work at 5am. If I get 4 hours of sleep I feel lucky :)
I get tired during the day, but I pull through til I go to bed which i between 10-11pm.

Oh motherhood...... why did we skip the non sleeping part when we played house all those years ago?

Well you have kids, and a husband, so I would say yes that is normal. Not ideal, but normal. Do your children sleep? Or are just an insomniac? I am lucky if I get 5 hours a night, but I have a 3 month old, so I am hoping it will get better.
My suggestion is leave the garden and the housework, take a nap, you need it and deserve it.
My housework is always traded for a much needed nap.

I get about 5 1/2 - 6 hrs a night also and for the same reasons: work, kids, house, pets, etc. I seem to be fine energy-wise as long as I am moving. But sit me still in a chair for over 5 mins and I can fall right asleep! I wont even try to sit to watch a movie.

recently I've only been getting about 4hrs a night (just had a baby and I have a 20month old)... I generally feel fine. However, by midnight if both children aren't sleeping I feel like I'm going to die if I don't get some sleep. I'm totally the type of person that needs 8hrs of sleep to function... so hopefully my family will get on track soon... or I fear I will die...lol
I think if you feel fine and are able to function on 6hrs then I would say that's all your body needs.. power to ya!

I get about that much too. Usually I'm pretty awake until about 11 pm then I start to drag. Some people have different needs of how much sleep they need to function. I guess we're just lucky we don't need more.

Well, I get around 6 hours of sleep everyday, and sometimes I do feel tired especially around midday. But coffee always helps.

there've been researches about sleep and new methods , such as sleeping 2 hrs every 5 hours or something so as to maximise time, but seriously nothing beats a good rest. quality as well as quantity. because your body recovers and heals over the night time, from 11pm onwards to 2am its when your system takes over to grow new cells, replace dead cells, and if you are awake it wont take place.
