I can't really speak for others, but for me it brings me joy - its really hard to explain to someone that isn't into it like I am, but playing a Les Paul electric guitar into a cranked overdriven tube amp is like "riding the lightning" and the closest thing to being in touch with God on Earth. Music is all about expressing emotion (for the player) and can be soothing (for the listener) after a hard day or a bad time. Music is played at parties, funerals, weddings, etc. Unless you were born 100% deaf, music will be a big part of your life - even if you never pick up an instrument. Music in the background of movies and TV shows, commercials, on the radio, and you will hear it in stores, restaurants, bars, at sporting events, etc. Music is a HUGE part of our lives. We need music to LIVE a life with feeling and joy.

I think music helps us express ourselves. For example, many couples have songs that express their relationship or hold memories for them that they can't put into words. Most people have a song that cheers them up when they're feeling blue. Somehow the writers have the gift of putting into lyrics the words and feelings many of us can't express on our own, but we can do it with a song.

Sometimes songs express by the lyrics things that are happening to you in that moment so when you hear the song you say "omg that's me" Also if you want to cheer up yourself you listen to a very good song really loud and that helps you to be better
