I've heard and read this several times, but cannot find a reliable source to substantiate it as "aware" appears in the dictionary to be both singular and plural... Any English experts out there who can enlighten me?

It is normally "highly educated" people I hear use the form awares or unawares. Are they only using the adverb form? If so, is that adverb form proper or a colloquialism?

I agree with all who have said "aware" is the correct form of the adjective and does not have either singular or plural form. However, there may be some confusion with the word "unawares." Unawares is a correct word when used as an adverb (not adjective); thus someone can be "caught unawares," but cannot be "unawares of the information."

In general English adjectives do not have separate singular and plural forms. (The rare exceptions are a few borrowed words that maintain their forms from other languages.) "-s" is a plural endings added to nouns, but not adjectives. It is correct to say "I am aware" and "We are aware".

Awares or unawares...it's hillbilly talk and is not proper English grammar.

Aware is the same for singular and/or plural.

In English, adjectives don't have plural forms.

As above! it is both singular and plural, as in "That man is aware." And "Those people are aware."
