What is censorship? and are you for or against it?

Censorship is the deliberate oppression of ideas and the communication of those ideas.

There are some kinds of censorship that are socially acceptable. Prohibiting the yelling of "fire" in a crowded theater when no fire actually exists.

Using the same argument of "public safety" arguments have been presented to censor various things including specific political and religious ideologies.

Laws are passed censoring religious activities that are determined to be harmful to society such as fertility rites or mutilation of genitalia while similar activities are allowed such as legalized prostitution, sex therapy or circumcision.

Society as a whole has to determine what constitutes a danger to society, but, which society? The neighborhood, the "county", the state, the nation, the continent, the global region or the world?

The question becomes then, not are we for or against censorship but where and how cultural and social boundaries are drawn.

Censorship is the act of preventing someones thoughts, ideas, opinions being heard by other people.

Censorship is when you ban books from the library and bleep out words in songs on the radio.

I believe in censorship of materials with adult content. For example, pornography in the public library.

Look it up. I am against mandated censorship but I am for a person censoring their own language according to context. I might cuss around my buddy but not my grandmother. I might have a legal right to tell my boss off but he can still fire me for voicing my feelings for him.

Politics trying to hush people views. I am against it if it is done to control or dictate. I am for it if it is done to protect values, morals and character and esp for children.
