My step son went in the Army at 18. He ended up in Korea. He spend 3 yrs in the Army and got out. When he returned home, I could sense the defference. He went in a boy, came out a man.
Now he has a respectable resume and money for his future. I'm proud of him. He lives with us now while he's finishing school.
If you're worried about him dying in Iraq, don't. They aren't sending a very high percentage to Iraq and hardly anyone who goes is killed.
Be proud.

I would be Proud. The brains and guts it takes to go into the Army is something that only deserves respect.
Please tell your son thank you for being a brave, wise and strong American. and Thank You for raising your son to be willing to be an Honorable man. You must be a great mom.

I would be terrified, sad, and trying to talk him out of it but I know that don't work so I would have to search for a way to live with his brave decision.I think about how someone that young can make that decision voluntarily the way the war is going on today and it is beyond my comprehension how they could enlist. I can't understand a heroes action I can only admire them. My best to you, your family and your hero.

I would be sad but also proud......I tip my hat to ANY of the men and women who join the armed forces. Good luck to him in his journeys and give him my thanks for choosing a job that gives us the ability to sit here and play around on this site among many other things we all take for granted daily.

I would be so sad at the "loss" of my child. But happy because they will teach him soooooo much and he will be a different person.

Both. Proud that he wants to serve and is selfless in that way, scared crap-less for my own personal selfish reasons. :( Good luck!
