Only public outcry and action by owners and GM's will bring about change.

The O/T system in the NFL could not be worse...Even the High Schools have a better system.

High School = Ball is put on the ten yard line...Both teams have a chance to score...If score is still tied after one O/T, play again!

Fair system to both teams!!!!

NCAA = Ball is put on the 25...After 2 O/T's, teams can no longer kick the extra point but MUST go for two!

Fair system to both teams!!!!

NFL = One extra quarter...First team to score wins...If tied after one quarter, game ends in a tie...If you kick off and the other team scores, you lose without touching the ball on offense!

UNFAIR system!!!

The system will change when the powers that be dictate it!...THAT will happen when the FANS tell them that is what they want!!!

So what are you waiting for...NFL.com!!!...Tell them now!!!!

Probably not. Too many people like it right not. I still think it is unfair. Something like 60% of the teams that get the ball first in overtime end up winning the game.

Frank's answer doesn't make any sense. Why should an entire game be decided on one drive because your defense isn't good enough. There are a lot of great teams with a great offense and a poor defense. If that is how they win games, they shouldn't be penalized for that. No other sport denies an team the chance to come back. One announcer said that it was fair because people get tired. That's dumb. Professional athletes are supposed to athletes!

Why not play the entire game like that? Let's not sit for over 3 hrs to watch the whole thing. Let's just have the first team to score in the 1st quarter win the game. It is the same thing. Essentially the winner of a game is determined by the OT coin toss. That's bull!

No. Because the college version takes away the aspect of Special Teams. The NFL version is fine. If you can't succeed on defense for one drive in overtime, then you don't deserve to win.

Perhaps a fair hybrid would be for both the overtime to start like in college (except they should start at the 40 or 50). Then, after each team has had a turn, put NFL Sudden Death rules into place.

Due to the fact that the reason Pro-football is popular is because you can bet on it. I would say no. Having the overtime system that college has would alter the over/under bet. Yes I know you can bet the over/under in college but most people don’t bet the over/under in college cause of blowout. So betting the over/under in college (which is usually off the table) isn’t even a second thought. Where as most people bet a team and the over/under. Therefore, I don’t think the gamblers would like the college overtime system

That's a good question.
Hey, the NFL now uses the option to go for a two point conversion after a touchdown which is straight from the college game. In time I think they will because it is a fair system and doesn't depend on luck with the coin toss.

I like the college football OT rules a lot better but the NFL is too stubborn to use anything that college football uses. We're lucky they decided to bring back the 2-point conversion!

I asked this same question a few months ago. I like those overtime rules a lot better than the NFL rules. I think they are a bit more fair.

It's certainly a lot more fair, isn't it?

I'd also like to see college adopt the pro's use of the first down rule NOT stopping the clock.

Eventually, they will when they feel that teams are being cheated by it. Also, I like the college overtime system too.

NFL system is fine. It makes use of all aspects of the game - offense, defense, special teams. It would be better and more fair if each team was allowed to touch offensively the ball at least once.
