...trying to convey that you don't care for something/one. The proper saying is "I COULDN'T care less". I know it is a small thing, but man, it really gets under my skin. I've tried to correct and explain to my friends yet they still continue to say, "Man, I could care less about him/her".... Eeesh! Anyway, how many here get it? Please help restore my faith in the human intelligence, lol!

It's a perfect example of how people say things without even really thinking about what they are saying. Some more of my "favorites"
1)" I bet..... " ( the person really isn't gonna place a bet on anything )
2) " The chances of that happening are one in a million". Very rarely is it actually that unlikely. Usually whatever they are referring to as a probability like one in fifty.
3) "Ninety nine percent of the time....." Similar to the one above. Very rarely is "it" 99% of the time in actuality. Usually it's more like 80%. It's the difference between something happening one out of a hundred times, and something happening one out of five times.
4) "I'm just curious...." No one is JUST curious about anything. There is always another reason why they want to know.
Anyway I could go on and on. People should think before they speak.

I always have said I couldn't care less, but I guess that happens because I learned English as a second language!
You are right the native speakers on a language are the ones that break more the rules!

I had a teacher who did that all of the time and when I pointed it out to him he sent me to the office. That was a long time ago and I think he has since died and I wanted to let him know that "I could care less".

I have never heard someone saying "could care less" perhaps I just take it that they say "couldn't care less" - I never noticed perhaps I will listen harder in future - thank you

I agree with you- it's annoying to me to. "I could care less" means that you care a lot so you could care less than you already do. "I couldn't care less" means that you care so little about something already that there is no way that you could care any less about it......

I ve been saying this for years; too many people think that a series of cliches constitutes speech. Its really aggravating, like those who say "irregardless"

Doesn't bother me nearly as much as people who pronounce nuclear incorrectly.
