I'm 37 weeks with my second and this pregnancy has been so different then my first. I'm sure the labor will start completely different. Today I actually have been feeling a lot of pressure in my whole belly, on and off back pain and some cramping thats pretty low (which I've menstral like cramps the entire pregnancy so for me it's new). With my first baby I knew labor was starting because my water broke. Just wondering what second time mothers experianced the second time around when their labor began. How did it start? What did you feel? How long before you knew it was truly labor? Thanks a bunch in advance!

With my second labour it started the same as my first, the feeling of needing to do no. 2's. This started at about 8:30pm. Stayed up all night as I couldnt sleep ( again same as first) I thought I might be in labour but still wasnt sure as I didnt really have any contractions. By 6am I was having small contractions, so I called my Mum. ( I was at my mother-in-laws so I was closer to the hospital) My Mum arrived about 7am, waking my mother in law. ( I didnt want to wake her as she had to watch my 2 yr old while I was at hospital) by this time the contractions were full on and close together, everyone had coffee while I was walking around trying to breathe through the contractions. By 8:30am I didnt want to go to the hospital yet but both my Mum and mother in law made me ( they had been timing my contractions with out my knowledge)
We got to the hospital at about 9 or 9:30, they hooked my belly up to some machine to monitor the contractions. The contractions still werent as strong or as painful with my first. Then my waters broke within 20min ( they had to break my waters for me with the first one) it still wasnt that bad, then they moved me into the delivery suite and thats when it started hurting, I tried a shower ( this had really helped with my first) but it just annoyed me. bY now the pain was intense and I started kicking the wall to try and deal with the pain. Thats when I decided to have some gas through the contractions ( I dont handle pain very well) the gas calmed me enough that I started to fall asleep thats when my beautiful little girl arrived. So my whole labour lasted 1& 1/2 !!!! My first was 9 hrs. That was why I didnt want to go to the hospital straight away. Lucky I did but.
Hopefully when I get around to having the next one it will be even quicker!
I wish you luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and a quick and painless labour, and a healthy baby.
Good Luck

My first pregnancy labor started with the pains on and off. Thought it was just Braxton- Hicks, but they came in a regular pattern. The doctor had to break my water when I got admitted to the hospital. I had not dilated enough so I had to be induced with Pitocin. Labor lasted 22 hours. 2nd pregnancy, I got up to go to bathroom, and water broke right after I tinkled. No pains, just pressure. This was @ 4am. Went to hosp and was in a room by 5:45am. By 10:03 my baby girl was here. Two entirely different labor experiences. Grateful for them both.

Both my labors were at the opposite ends of the spectrum. My first started out with early labor for several hours and then was in the hospital and ready but contractions were not strong enough so got pitocin. I had to push for 3 hours.

With my 2nd child...I woke up in active labor at 2 AM..no warning signs before that. I labored at home until 4 AM...went to hospital by 5AM and had her at 8AM.

My water did not break until I was pushing with either child. I felt cramping and pressure 2 weeks before my 2nd was born and thought it was early labor..but it wasn't..it was just the baby engaging and my body getting ready.

well i was in hard labor for 72 hours pushed for three hours without med. and then had to have a c-section because the baby was hitting my pelvic bone. with the second one i had to have a c-section the labor started at 8pm and was not as bad i went to the hospital they ended up having to give me 15 shots in the spine and they never did get it right and i had to be put under in order to have the c-section which is dangerous for the baby. but i was lucky both times the babies were fine. i am now pregnant with my third child and i also am afraid that things will be worse this time. good luck

umm I have only had one but mine was very diff for a first time birth. It started off with me being sick to my stomach and throwing up ( I was only 35 weeks so I thought I might had a stomach bug or something) I had small contractions ( but I thought they were braxton hicks) around 12am I got them bad and I could not go to sleep because they hurt so bad. I then went to the hospital and got there around 1:00 and they said I was a 6 and she was born at 4:45am with no meds( I got epidural but it did not work because I had it to late...I was an 8)

You sound like you are in labor. My sister in law went through the same symptoms with her last pregnacy (she gave birth this past dec.) Go to your ob-gyn just to be on the safe side.

Long and painful. 28 hours to be exact. I really hope that it will be easier the second time around.

I'm still pregnant with my second baby..so I'm really happy that you asked this question :)

I was induced all three times, but my second was my easiest. I was in labor for seven hours, and she came out in three pushes. It was great!
