i have baseboard heating powered by oil. we just filled the tank last week yet our heat keeps going off. we have a water heater in the basement that is a part of the heating system, its a big box type machine with a small maybe 10 or 20 gallon tank above it. there's a little red button that i have to keep pushing to reset it and then the heat kicks in again. last week i also had some electrical issues in the basement because too much electricity was drawing on the system could this have messed the heater up? any ideas?

The two problems are probably not related. The red reset button pops out when the systems cad-cell (commonly called the fire-eye) fails to pick up a flame when the boiler gets a call for heat. generally the nozzle in the burner needs to be replaced. Quite often after filling the oil tank, sediment is stirred up from the bottom, and plugs the nozzle. It is worth the cost of paying a service-person to come and change it, as it may also be several other things, and while changing the nozzle is relatively simple, the electrodes which create the spark to ignite the oil, MUST be set properly in order to work. Either way, it is more than likely a rather inexpensive problem which a simple service will fix. Hope this helps.

I would call someone to have a look. It may be something as simple as a fuse or relay inside the unit.

New nozzle and filter for the boiler.
