This is a good question and I will be anxious to see the scientific answer if there is one. My instincts tell me that introverts might be more susceptible because they have lower coping skills and seem to turn to drugs and alcohol to get through the day. Speed freaks might look like extroverts but that could just be the drugs talking. Extroverts seem to look forward and not dwell on problems because they have interests but then ADHD people are can be hyperactive and depressed at the same time. I like this question and will be checking the serious answers.

I think in a lot of cases it has to do with self esteem. If you don't like yourself or are unhappy with your life and a drug changes that by giving you euphoria, you're going to want to keep doing that drug. If you are already capable of that feeling naturally (eg: an amazing concert, or winning a team sport) because you're already a content individual, than you'll have a much easier time of keeping it recreational or not doing it at all. Other cases I think some people are just wired that way and it has nothing to do with female or male or lifestyle, they just are more susceptible to addiction.

I say "c" because when exposed at this time it would have more effect on the chemicals of the brain. Hence thier reaction to the drug would be felt as more positive and would have a more likely chance of becoming addicted.

"c". But, also some people are also born with an addictive personality trait.

Can someone please tell "Tom W" that Introverts are not this way. Introverts are more interested in themselves, not what others may think, or do. Most Introverts do not have esteem issues, or even problems with life. I'm sorry you thought this. Yes, I'm an Introvert.
