If you like a name then go for it. Who knows? By the time your child is in school, the name you gave him/her will probably be the only one in the class. Just remember this: whatever name you give him/her will be with him/her 25 years from now. although it may sound cutesy now, the child will grow up and have to live with the decision you made. Make your baby proud to be called by his name. Good luck!!

Names defiantly go in trends. WHen I was in school there were 5 Shanes and 6 Shawns in our graduating class of 46 (small school). My sister is one of the many Jennifers!! 3 1/2 years ago I named my baby Isabell after her grandmother. Friends liked it and now there are 4 Isabel's and Isabella's amongst us. Olivia is one that we don't hear to much but, it is an up and coming. It really shouldn't matter. If you love the name make it yours. Add a cool middle name OR I have a friend who has 2 first names and a middle name. AmberDawn. I think this is a real cool way to keep a name you love but make it uniquely yours. Neith Amber or Dawn is unusual but together they are extroidinary, just like her. Also pick a name that fits your hope of who you want your child to become. Check the meanings. My Isabel is Isabel Claire. Consecrated to God Musically. Fits her perfectly, they are both family names and I'm a musician, sang during pregnancy, which could explain her love for music!!! Isabella seems to be the more popular name of the 2 here. I have a neighbors daughter named that. And I work in a grocery store & hear it often. But Olivia I dont seem to hear as much. I think they are both pretty names though.
My oldest I named Kyle, at the time I rarely heard it. Now though, I hear it everywhere. I cant think of a time someone doesnt know a Kyle, is related to a Kyle, or has a friend named Kyle. But he none the less is my KYLE!!!
Just dont pick a name that you always have to sound out or spell to everyone!!! Like the 2 childrens names that my husband picked out! We have a Kyle, Gaige, Seth, & Terralyn (always mistaken as Caroline). The second and last names he picked... if you couldnt tell. lol
Best of luck to you!

I think Isabella is way to popular right now. I know I'm a terrible Grandma, but my grandaughter's name is Isabella, she will be 4 in Feb. I hate the name. I thought it would grow on me, but hasn't.

It seems like every other baby or child 4 years and under is named Isabella. I hear so many people say it is beautiful. If you say so. Sounds like an old lady to me.

We do call her Bella, but I don't like it much better. My grandaughter is Isabella Marie, but most are Isabella Grace. I think the name Grace sounds like an old lady too.

Evidently I am in the minority though. I personally don't know of anyone named Olivia. I think Olivia is much prettier than Isabella and not as popular.

Its really a personal choice, I don't like common names for children, I never looked at those popular name lists for my children, I wanted something unique and different but, not strange. There are 2 Olivias in my older daughters class and one Olivia. If you like the name Olivia you could shorten it to Liv which is a very pretty and not common name, and the same goes for Isabella, you can shorten it to Bella which is also a pretty name.

I have an Isabelle, we call her belle (she loves Beauty and the beast) We picked the name out in 2002 and sadly had a miscarriage, we stayed with the name when I became pregnant again. Then came hurricane Isabel. She was born when the hurricane hit the Jersey shore. That is one reason that the name Isabella is so popular now. I like the name Olivia but it does make me think of my grandmother.....sorry. Pick a name you like, it doesn't matter if its popular or what other people think of it.
I had seven other girls with my name growing up, (three had my middle name too) We all went by our nicknames.

I say don't worry about popularity or not. Go with the name you feel will best suit your child and serve them throughout their lives. Your child will always be an individual, no matter what. If she has to deal with 3 other Isabella's in her class then it will force her, at an early age, to differentiate herself from the crowd and will help to build character. Everybody has to deal with something. I don't think that either having a different name or a common name going to scar a kid for life. As the parent, you teach them how to deal.

Yes, Olivia and Isabella are very popular right now. If you want unique, don't pick them because they are not unique anymore.

However, if you love the names, then use them. That is different than wanting something unique.

I think you have to love the name - you are going to be known as "Isabella's mom" for many years, so I think its more important to love the name than to be caught up in its uniqueness.

yes I do.. My name is Jennifer and growing up there were always at least three Jennifers and two Jessicas in my classes. It was the 80s when I was born so those names were popular, just like Olivia and Isabella are now.

Its up to you weather or not you want to give your child a original name or not. I like the name Isabella, but I know a lot of children with that name. It is getting common. Olivia is not so popular, but I personally do not like the name. Baby books help a lot. It took my husband and I 8 months to Finlay decided on our sons name, Ashton! Good luck to you!
