my computer is down...I bought the watt power supply then the motherboard do I need to also get the cpu and if so do I buy the same socket model number? the model number is 478 atx? Everyone tells me to get a new one but I don't have that kind of money right now. Also are all my files destroyed can they be recovered?????

If you don't know what kind motherboard then I would strongly recommend not to do it by yourself. Sounds like you do not have enough knowledge of it, plus the money you spent on motherboard, PS and may b processor/HD .. you can get new pc about the same price!
Go to www.newegg.com look for motherboard that fits the processor you have, new egg has reasonable price but you can off course shop around.
About the files, if HD is damaged, then its hard to say unless if you send to professionals which are $$$$. go to www.download.com you will find some data recovery softwares, hope that will help. I think i used eData unerase, worked great.

the socket 478 is an older type board and processor and generally arent available any more but you can find them on ebay. I had a 478 which went down and i had to buy a socket 775 board and processor to get it running again

Check Ebay for a used one. You might find one. Use a CPU that is compatible with the motherboard.

any data can be easily recovered although you don't put a new data on the same place Kaspersky Anti-Virus software can recover any lost data
