Yes, we all know the cliches - beauty is in the eye of the beholder...etc... But think about it, if it is, we must each see something in a beautiful one that makes us go even if this is the case. So what is it that we see? Is it the pattern of our heaven, as according to the Christian doctrine? Is it ourselves? What think you, oh maker of beauty?

The more symmetrical the face is(according to features such as eyes, eyebrows, mouth, etc), the more beautiful the person is. When babies are shown two pictures, one picture having more symmetrical features, the baby will stare and try to touch it. That is the way things are. =)

Symmetry (of facial features) is probably the right answer if you're talking about "first glance" beauty.
But if you're talking about your opinion of beauty after knowing a person, what we see are the good things about ourselves reflected in them. I remember one quote, "People don't remember what we say or what we did, they remember how we made them feel."
Think of it... An ordinary personal can be quite beautiful in your eyes (beyond the beauty of a "perfect" stranger), because they are reflecting what is beautiful about *your* soul.
That is how an old married couple can claim, "He/she is the most beautiful person in the world." Their eyes are beholding something beyond facial symmetry.
