It could get kinda smelly..but i don't think that it would harm you, as you wouldn't have enough living in the ceiling/roof space to harm you. Some bat species do carry a disease called lisyvirus( sp?) which is a form of rabies. If you get bitten, you will need to go and get a needle, followed by 2 more shots in a few weeks time. Best thing to do would be to call your nearest wildlife rescuer and have them come and catch them and relocate them, then fix the holes in the roof where they would be getting in, so no more can get in.

I am a wildlife rescuer and have get the vaccination shots every 2 yrs or so, depending on what they call titre levels.

I hope they are in the roof space and not on your ceiling! They do make a mess but they are not very harmful. Bats are likely to be a protected species so you aren't allowed to harass them. When the season is over they might move out.

You need a bat expert to identify the bat and tell you what you can do.

Venturing into caves with lots of bat guano (dung) can result in a certain kind of lung-emphyzema. Don't know if dung on your ceiling will cause that though.

I would think that bats are like flying rats with diseases, but I'm not sure. I do know for a fact that they will clean your house of mosquitoes though.

You are most fortunate that they are leaving and not just arriving!! Not likely they can cause any physical harm unless they happen to be rabid!
