ok well the question is this, i forgot how to do percentages heres my problem how do i convert this data to percentage:
lets say i ran in 16 races and won 7 times.
how can i turn these numbers into percentage, i want to know what is my percentage of winning 7 races out of 16, please can you help and also please show the way you done it thanks.

Divide 7 by 16. Then move the decimal point two places. 43.75%
Don't confuse yourself by thinking it's about memorizing some formula. I.e. don't get caught up in the "how to do it." While that's important, it's even more important to know that percentage is just a way of writing a number.
43.75% is just another way to write 0.4375 ... that's all. The '%' is no different than the 'dot' symbolizing the decimal point, or for that matter, the symbol '7' representing the number 7. The '%' symbol is just a way of saying "I've moved the decimal place to make this more readable."
So if you know how to convert the fraction 7/16 to decimal, then you ALREADY KNOW how to convert it to a percentage.

"7 out of 16" is translatable into symbols as "7/16"
A slash "/" means "divide".

Lets say you have winning percentage equal to x. This means that for every 100 races, you win x races. Now the ratio of x by 100 is exactly the same as 7 by 16. Mathematically, 7/16=x/100 or
x=7*100/16 or x=43.75
Thus your winning percentage is 43.75%

This can be likened to scoring 7 out of 16 in a test. This is lower than half marks so will be lower than 50%.

a percentage is a proportion.
a percentage is a proportion multiplied by 100
so its what ever value you observe divded by the base/ item you want to compare it to
so the winning proportion is: 7/16 ie .4375 ie 43.75%
so the loosing proportion is: 9/16 ie .5625 ie 56.25%
equally you can use percentages the other way round
eg if you wages (say £250) increased by 4.25%
your wages will increase by 4.25%
(250 x 4.25)/100 = 10.625.. the divison by 100 removes the effect of the percentage
...bearing in mind that you could express the same thing as a proportion
250 x 0.0425 = 10.625
you could find what you new salary is by
250 x 1.0425 = 260.625

okay, you need to devide 7 by 16 then multiply this by 100
7/16 = 0.4375
x 100 = 43.75
43.75 is your absolute answer, so you can report this as 43.75% or you can round the figure. as .75 is above .5 the rule is that you round up to the next whole number (if below .5 you round down). so this answer rounded up is 44%.
