A mortician handles the dead (mort from the French for dead) and embalmer embalms ie:- presevers the body against decay with a preserving (embalming) fluid.
The embalmer may tart-up the unfortunalty deceased with make-up, this is most common with Catholic funerals as the body may be layed in state/view for several days before internment/burial.
A large mortuary may employ a beutician specifically for this work.

The person who does the make-up on the deceased is usually called an Embalmer. In some funeral homes the Funeral Director or the mortician does the make-up.

A Cosmetologist does facials and such on the living...to do it on the dead...I think she would need a license but being from a small patch town and knowing two people that do or have done that work I must say you have to want to do it and if there is a title they do not really let it out just collect the money for a job well done. Necro + cosmetologist is the closest I have found for that particular title

The funeral director is the one who does it. We are trained in mortuary school how to do the make-up and so very, very few funeral homes hire out a cosmetologist.
