Get a HDTV with a resolution of 720p. This is enough, as most games only use this resolution, and higher resolutions are upscaled.
Make sure, the TV has analogue Component input and maybe a VGA connection.
If you only want to play Xbox on this TV, then this is all you need to know. If you later want to view HD DVDs or Blue Ray on a standalone Player (not via the Xbox), make sure your TV supports HDCP via HDMI or DVI connection.
If you still have other analogue equipment like a standard DVD or VCR or satellite/cable box, make sure the TV has enough input for these as well, or you might use a switchbox for these.
If you want brand names and models, it depends on your taste of design.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Myrica 32'' LCD. It has a crystal clear picture when I play Xbox Games in 720p.
It also allows me to connect my PC via DVI or VGA (Half Life 2 on this gigantic screen is pure joy).
Keep in mind, that games are very colorful and change large areas of the screen a lot. Plasma TVs will consume more energy, the brighter and more colorful the screen is.
However LCDs are not perfectly black.
So there is no ultimately best TV to use with the Xbox. Just get one with component inputs and a VGA connector if its just the Xbox you care about, and that it displays 720p HDTV.

it doesn't matter what type of tv or brand as long your tv could support the resolution that the game provides. I have a 4year old 60 inch HDTV (not lcd or plasma) and it supports a 480 i &1080i resolution and it looks good with my 360. But if you want to shell out big bucks go for the lcd or plasma that supports all the resolutuon.
