I just had a oil change done at Walmart. When I turn the turn the heat on, I get a foul smell. I took it back to Walmart. They did not find any leaks. They said the oil filter could be defective as it was wet. The filter was not leaking. I had the oil filter replaced by them but the smell persists.
Could it be that the oil filter Walmart uses cause the problem? The car has only 19K miles and did not have this problem before. I always changed oil at the dealer before.

The smell only comes when the heat is on and I am drawing air from outside i.e. recirculate is off. Also, it increases noticeably when the car is park position. Smell is burning oil related. It has been 5 days already. How long should I wait?

im goin to guess that your car is a 4 cyl car correct? they way the are set up if your not careful there is a flexible exhaust pipe thats right under the oil filter that can fill with oil and burn as u drive and it will take a few days of driving to get rid of it...like somone else said thats walmart for u...we just replaced a oil pan on a 06 civic because they stripped it out! not the first one we have seen!

Most likely the guy that changed your oil was a bit unkept in his bodies cleanliness and when he sat in your car he left the stink of his body. That smell will never go away! I have smelled the foul stench of the WalMart Greeter many a time and the path it leads you down is that of a wayward child searching for a home on a rainy night when the spirits of the damned walk the streets only noticed by the dim glow of the streetlights. The pain felt by the child grows with each step in the damp night as the journey takes us through back alleys and between peoples yards!

I have had that sort of thing too when getting an oil change, although I don't remember where it was. It will probably go away, and is not cause for concern unless its really bad.
Remembe you car was sitting for an hour in their shop, and the air would be filled with all sorts of odours. Sometimes after an oil change you will smell things that are emitted from the engine into the cabin. But it goes away fairly quickly.

The technician probably spilled oil on your exhaust manifold or engine and the vents(when you turn on the fan) just out side the hood are pulling in the smell. My son did this on my truck when I was teaching him to change the oil. I told him it is important not to spill any oil on the engine or anywhere else. If oil is spilled, it needs to be cleaned up really good or you will get that smell. If it is not oil smell, then it could be your heater core is leaking and it smells like anti-freeze every time you turn on your heat.

Honda's smell like oil after an oil change if they are sloppy when changing and don't clean off the spilled oil afterwords, they may even drip old oil on your driveway for a couple of days.

It sounds like when the oil was being draining the mechanic could have accidentally allowed some to leaked into your heating system. Good luck getting that out.

they probably spilled some on engine, keep an eye on your oil level and look for leaks on the ground. You might swallow your pride and tell them what happened at the honda dealer and have them look at it to see if Walmart messed something up.better safe than sorry.dont go back to Walmart unless they screwed something up and they are responsible to fix it, there are plenty of good oil change places

I bet they spilled some oil on your engine..Its no big deal...It will burn off in a few days if you drive it often...If the smell persists for a couple weeks...Then take it back to a honda dealership to have it checked...
