It's hard to say. Some people think that's a day for boys to act, while girls to accept. But somehow in fact girls are more care about the day. They really wanna be romantic, and unforgettable. They prepare the gift even two months before. You may search this yahoo's questions, most of questions about the Valentine's were asked by girls. While boys care most is face, they are afraid to be embarrassed.

I don't know but I can say this, I am a girl and I HATE Valentines day! It is just a way that the stores make more money for no reason at all!

Valentine's day IS NOT more for girl than for guys. It is a day for Love. Love to your parents, friends, neighbors, etc.
It is also a great day to declare your love to a special person in your life. Of course, if you love someone, don't wait for Valentine's Day to tell that person how you feel.
I love my wife, and I show my love to her every day.

In terms of getting items that just look nice for one time of the year, yes. Otherwise, it's all a ploy of businesses to make more money during one particular time of the year for the reason of love/romance. Of course if you've both been together long enough, there could be something for the guys too.

Essentially- yes. However, it's MAIN purpose is to spend money because it's considered a Hallmark holiday... a day to go spend money on chocolates and cards for (basically) no reason. I bought my fiance flowers and dinner last year. A carnation for every month we've been together.
