Money is the reason. We are more interested in saving money. Years ago it was Japan now its China who are making products cheaper. Even the person who works on the assembly line at a US car plant buys a foreign car and his/her spouse shops at WalMart and buys items made in China knowing full well that it is hurting another American.

China can make cheap products because of the cost of labor. As the Chinese economy improves workers are asking for more money and raising the price of goods. American manufacturers are now looking toward Viet Nam for even cheaper labor. Pretty soon we will be buying goods from our old enemy. If we want this to stop the Congress must tax these products so that they are more competitive with products made in America. Otherwise we will continue to send all our money to communist countries that employ near slave labor.

Great question.

But the real problem isn't just the obvious things that we buy. Most items have to be clearly marked as to country of origin, so we have a choice.

The real problem is the insidious entry of the parts we don't see. For example, American car companies started running American suppliers into bankruptcy around a decade ago. Now although your car is "assembled" by a very overpaid American worker, the parts are mainly made overseas.

This change is suppliers has run MILLIONS of American jobs out of the country to maintain just a handful of very lucky employees.

The reality is disgusting and, as usual, Congress doesn't care that it's happened. And it spells the end of the American middle class.

Happy New Year

We live in the moment. For many people it comes down to making ends meet by buying cheaper products. We need to elect representation who will do what it takes to level the playing field. I just read yesterday that our trade deficit with China is astronomical. The government needs to take control for strategic reasons if nothing else.

because people keep selling it as the labour is so cheap in China.

Its a shame because its changing peoples way of thinking, for example: a few years ago a builder would buy a quality powertool that would last him years, now he buys half a dozen cheap ones that will last a few weeks, and they all end up in a landfill... but the economy's on a roll, and its all about profit, profit, profit!

We are part of a global village and can not avoid it. It also makes local product competitive and of matching quality. Chinese Govt. was wise enough to capture the initiative and get oversea cos. in China where as our govt. is comprised of self seekers and corrupt politicians. You will have noticed what kind of criminals are supporting the govt. as it is at their mercy for day to day life.

Well first because there is domestic demand on the things that we are buying, and second because it is much cheaper to buy them from China then to make them domestically.

b/c it's cheaper. We don't have to rent warehouses, staff min. wage workers, carry ins., offer worker's comp and so on.

Offshoring has been going on for years, google it. The conditions in some of our American owned companies with foriegn workers is TERRIBLE. But we save money. And in a sense we give them work.

Such a touchy issue.

Because Americans care more about "things" now than they do about the future. If they can get a $14 microwave, who cares what happens, right?

Because we are all cheap and don't think about anything else except for our immediate well being without giving thought to the long range consequences.
