Overall since joining the EU, we have lost millions maybe billions. Should never have joined. They benefit from us, we dont benfit from them.

Yes,without doubt!!! The whole EU thing is costing the UK a fortune!!! I wonder just how many realise the full facts?
By 2007 the combined direct and indirect costs of EU membership will cost Britain close to £100,000 per minute.
Since Britain joined the ‘European Economic Community’ in 1973, Parliamentarians have time and again called for a cost-benefit analysis to prove or disprove the benefits of membership; successive Conservative and Labour governments have consistently refused on the grounds that the benefits are ‘self-evident’.
Set out in the latest Bruges Group research by Gerard Batten MEP the full costs to Britain have now been calculated.
The facts:
Britain has given nearly £200 Billion to the EU since we joined
In 2007 UK taxpayers will be forced to pay £14.2 Billion to the EU
The EU costs every man, woman and child £873 per year
The EU is costing the British economy £50.6 Billion this year, by 2007 this will rise to £52.4 Billion!!!!
If the Government believes that membership of the EU is beneficial to Britain and that we should remain a member, then let it commission an independent and impartial cost/benefit analysis so that the supposed benefits can be proved and the findings openly debated.
The British people should be presented with the full facts and figures so that they can decide if this is what they want, and if the price is worth paying.!! Think of what could be done in this country with that money.!

'Know it all' is right. If we left we would not have to join the Americans. There are hundreds of countries to trade with. The British trade with Japan, India, Austrailia, loads of other countries.
Nor would we be bankrupt within a year either. The EU actually controls our trade to a certain extent so we maybe would be better off without it. We put far more into Europe than we recieve.
In the short term it could cause problems, like all major changes, however, I think we would prosper without the meddling Eurocrats. Bring back the Comonwealth. We could trade with them. Theres 50 plus countries there for a start.

"Who will trade with if we leave? We'll be bankrupt in a year or less."
Yeah, right! Countries in the EU trade with countries outside the EU all the time. Switzerland and Norway have not been hurt by not joining... We are a major net contributor to the EU. The savings would more than cover any (very, very minor) loss of trade.
Saying that, I'm just correcting this flawed perspective. I do not have an opinion on the question itself.

Although it's very annoying that Britain are seemingly being told what to do all the time by Brussels Bureaucrats, I think there are more benefits from belonging than not belonging. Our economy would collapse as EU countries trade with each other ahead of any one else and I know I wouldn't want to have to go to London to get a visa every time I wanted to hop over to France or Spain.

Norway and Sweden are NOT in the EU and they are 2 of the richest countries in the world.
So to say we would be sunk if we got out of the EU is a load of old tripe.
We would have been far better off not joining in the first place.
What gave me a chuckle was when it was reported that the EU told the eastern block countries that they had to sort out THEIR corruption before they could join the EU
Pot, Kettle, Black are words that spring to mind..
Could someone please remind me...
When was the last time the EU auditors 'signed off' the EU finances.

No it would be an extremely stupid thing to do. Sad to say it but political strenght comes with size. Britian used to have an empire, it doesn't anymore so it needs to secure it's position some other way, being part of europe is definitely the best bet. Such a small and insignificant country will never have any power on the world stage on its own. The big mistake Britian made was not joining when the community was first created.

We should leave the EU, why should someone sitting in Brussells or wherever be able to decide on how we should live our lives and make decisions that could ultimately ruin our country. Britain should stand alone and we should keep the Pound Sterling which makes us the most unique nation in the world.

yes ,yes and yes the EU is just a block which will be joined together with the north american union, the asia union, and the africa union to eventually create world government. the EU is a total sham and we were put into it sneekily , the politicians sold us down the river in 1972 by joining the ECC which later morphed into the EU the whole thing is a sham.
if people were given the choice and not had this done to us by stealth which is totally wrong it would never of happened , this is also against our constitution and our bill of rights yes we have these .if wont to know what a total sham this is i sugest you give this a watch:http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=62612529763293088&q=EU its called the true face of the EU.

Yeah, lets leave the EU and join the US. Then we can have an idiot for president, an economy that can only be propped up by bombing other countries into giving up their oil, and join them as the pariahs of the world. And when global warming floods the whole of southern Britain, the yanks will welcome us with open arms. (That's as in small arms)
