Some jeans are too long, some are too tight around the waist, and some don't fit at the thighs. The jeans don't necessarily have all three problems, though. I don't want them to end up as things I can't wear.

For pants that are too tight around the waist.. cut slits on both sides next to the belt loops.

For pants that are too long.. either roll or cut.. or hem.

Donate them to charity. Jeans that are too tight any where are not a good fashion choice. If they're too tight in the waist, extra weight will be pushed up over the top, creating a sparetire look and there's nothing attractive about that. If they're too long, take them to a tailor. As for the thighs - well. Unless you want to chafe the insides of your legs, keep handing them down.

Too long you can fold them wide at the bottom and wear with boots or flat sandals.Tight waist you can take them to a tailor and have the waist let out.Tight thighs-you either need to tone yours or there is no solution for that.

I always have the problem with them being too long, and in that case you can either hem them or use a fabric adhesive to hem them for a different look. I usually have to take 4 in off petite pants so I can wear them with a regular heel and 5 for flats, know how that goes.
Good luck!

First, why would you take hand me downs that don't fit? That's just adding to closet clutter. If they're too long you can either hem them or cut them off and hem them. If they're too tight around the waist or thighs, you either have to lose weight to fit in them or give them to someone who CAN wear them.

If the jeans are too long, take them to a seamstress to have them hemmed.
If they are too tight, look online for waist expanders.

If they're too long, you can cut em off and wear frayed cuffs or cut them into shorts. Too tight... well you're out of luck there.

the only problem you mentioned that you can "fix" is shortening the ones that are too long. Unless you're going to lose weight, the other problems can't be fixed.

too long- mostly okay sincwe a ton of people leave them hanging. cut it if you like, or roll it up

yoo tight- a lot of mending to do, add rubber band thingies to make stretch, wear without buttoning (maybe + belt)

thighs- make them shorts over the part that they do fit over? I dunno.
