This question can be answered in so many ways - largely depending, of course, on your faith and beliefs. Assuming from the word "saved" that you refer to the Christian faith...I was saved when I was married the first time, and am now divorced and remarried. I personally don't believe that a loving God wants for anyone to stay in a dysfunctional marriage.

Saved is a term used by evangelical Christians to indicate their relationship with Jesus. I am a Christian Minister but not of the Evangelical strain so I don't think much of the concept.

However for those who do. Remember divorce occurs throughout the bible and by the time Jesus spoke against it he was speaking to pharisses and the like about casually divorcing their wives for any reason, like burning dinner for instance.

Under Moasaic law in the Old Testament men could do this and did. Jesus admonishes us to be careful about divircing for such frivolous reasons and most scholors I know agree that God would never want anyone to stay in an abusive situation or even one where the people have tried and can no longer be happy together.

The short answer here is Yes she can remarry once the divorce is final in her state. I believe both legaly and morally this is OK!

If your mother is now born again, she needs to seek to reconcile with the first husband. God hates divorce, and we hate things that God hates.

If reconciliation is not possible because he is remarried, then she needs to do serious Bible study. Scripture does not state conditions for a woman to take a new spouse. I believe that it teaches that a woman is bound to that first marriage and should not remarry. This is something that your mother should investigate on her own, through prayer, fasting, and study, and should speak to her pastor about, always remembering to discern God's purposes, not her own. She might _want_ to marry someone else, but if this is not in God's commands, then she should not.

God bless...

responding below - There are two biblical conditions set for divorce - adultery, and an unbelieving spouse. Important for the unbelieving spouse one is that it says that if the spouses wants to go, it is okay to let them go. It does not allow you to leave the nonbeliever. Also important is that neither of these is a mandate for divorce. God hates divorce, and would prefer you follow his commands to keep your marriage.

responding below - I'm vaguely intrigued by the idea of not believing in being saved, since there are over 25 uses of the phrase in Scripture.

When you get married you make a promise unto God that you will be with that one person no matter what. From my understanding, unless that person has commited adultery you are suppose to stay with that person. It is your job as a child of God and as a husband/wife to love that person and try to share the love of God with that person. The best answer to this question would be if you are saved and your spouse is not to just pray about it and God will answer your prayer.
