I think they just had the syndrome that many teams get when they do well for themselves No matter if it's little league football, high school football, college or pro football: They got cocky, thought that if they just show up, that Florida would've cowered down instead of puttin' up a fight. and when you get cocky, you get sloppy
and you say "lousy"? excuse me there girly girl, but you may want to look at the schedules that both of these teams had played this season as well as their rankings in the polls, and not to rub it anyone's face, but the way the GAME was played speaks for itself.
As a Florida Gator Fan I had my concerns about how this game was going to go down. especially with how Florida played during the season and barely eaking by most of their opponents, but they stepped up to the plate and swung for the fences on this one, proving that if you talk some trash, you'd better have the a** to back it up and prove it. don't sing it, just bring it
In truth, I expected MORE from the Buckeyes being that this was a championship title on the line (and that it would've been a tighter game; like say a 10 point spread at the most) no matter how many "tough" or "ranked" teams they played this season.
And as it was posted earlier, Texas and Michigan were really the only 2 teams that gave them a challenge or were well ranked, but this goes to show the flaws in the BCS system and how it needs to be tweaked.
The Florida team CAME TO PLAY FOOTBALL, end of story, they heard all about the trash people were poppin' off about them and gettin' slung around: "they're the underdogs", "they don't have a chance", bleh, bleh, bleh, yakety shmackety, and they stepped up their game, the Buckeyes unfortunately, did not.
In the SEC, you've got several good teams (any of them really, and they've got the rosters to do it) that can either roll right over you, or pull a sneak in the second half and come back to throw you a loop if you get cocky: LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, just to name a few.
So sorry Buckeye fans, Take this as a lesson learned; don't underestimate ANY TEAM; especially when there's a championship title on the line! AND especially if they come from the SEC. good luck NEXT YEAR.
GO GATORS!!!!!!

Well, several things.
1) The layoff hurt, but I really don't buy that as the major reason. After all, Florida had been off for over a month.
2) As it turns out, the Big 10 was down this year. I'm not saying it was awful, but a losing bowl record for the conference speaks volumes.
3) There was a lot of overconfidence on the Ohio State side. I think these guys read their own press clippings and truly believed that they were the best college football team this side of the 1995 Cornhuskers or the 1985 Chicago Bears.
4) I don't subscribe that individual SEC players are faster. However, I do believe that SEC defenses are a great deal more aggressive than Big 10 defenses. SEC defenses tend to attack, attack, and attack some more, shutting off running lanes, gang tackling, and continuously shifting schemes to confuse the quarterback and offensive lines. If you look carefully at the replays of the game, you'll noticed that everytime OSU's quarterback turned his head at the line of scrimmage to call a snap count, a defensive back would move. This prevents the QB from really getting a read on the defensive scheme. I really don't see much of that in Big 10 ball.
5) While we're talking about Defense, I felt that OSU's defense was overrated to begin with. Why? Because they let Michigan ring up 40 points on them. No championship team ever allows that many point in any game during a season.
6) Florida took a far harder road to the national championship this year. That meant they had to be much more tough minded to make it to Glendale.

A very poor game plan with no adjustments at halftime not too mention the players were overconfident and lacked intensity.
I don't think Ohio St is that bad. They just didn't buckle up their chin straps and the coach was lost in never-never land.
I was expecting a competitive game but it was far from that. Now, the performance is in the record books and I cannot imagine a team setting lower offensive marks than Ohio St in a championship game.
C'om a lousy Florida team. The rest gave Florida an advantage because they were banged up on defense at the end of the season after playing the SEC schedule. They were back to full force for the championship game and it showed. It wasn't luck in that speed kills and the SEC is known for its fast and hard-hitting defenses.

The Buckeyes came out flat with no fire, they lost their fastest player on the first play of the game, they let Florida have the ball the first 4 times on Ohios States side of the field, costly penalties, ETC. Florida played flawless and could do nothing wrong. Ohio State got away from their game plan and style of play. they could run the ball but tired it rarely. But its obvious the voters did not give Florida ALL the credit , Ohio State only dropped one spot in the polls. They looked terrible. I'm a huge Buckeyes fan. That being said the Florida players are showing their true colors as usual with their cocky and disrespectful remarks to any reporter who will listen. you dont verbally trash a team that you have just beaten. anyone with half a brain knows Ohio State killed themselves just as much as Florida contained them. You wouldn't see the Buckeyes doing anything but praising Florida if the situation was reversed. But like its surprising, Florida teams have to verbally ridicule and shoot off at the mouth if they can't start an actual physical brawl.

The Bucks got stuck on zone defense. You cant play zone and give the man in front of you ten yards of space. Chris Leak just passed for five or six yards and the receivers ran for the rest to get a first down. The Bucks offense just went into panic mode. The running game was there look at Pittman, ten carries for 62 yards. The offense just tried to pass on every single down. No adjustments made at all during the game either side of the ball. Plus Florida was just the better team that day.

Basically the Buckeyes are way overrated. You had good games against Texas and Michigan, but look at the rest of your schedule. The Gators on the other hand had the hardest schedule in college football, according to the BCS. The Big Ten isn't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, the Buckeyes had an awesome team and one hell of a quarterback, but on Championship Day......They fell apart because the ran into one of the best defenses in the nation. I would love to see them play against Michigan one more time.

Their schedule in my oponion was pretty easy. They played a lot of easy teams and the only tough team they played was michigan. Florida on the other hand was in a insanly tough league against a lot of solid and tough teams. Also the 50+ day layoff did hurt the buckeyes but they should have adjusted by the beginning of the second half. I mean come on, they have a great coach and a bunch of players that should be able to do it.

Your Question is, what went wrong with the Buckeyes? I'll tell you what went wrong..... Buckeyes too weak. They are good at selecting weak conference team during regular season in order to get to the BCS Bowl.. Therefore, they are a fraud.. F R A U D

I personally think that the no.#1 ranked team met the #1 ranked defense!
Gator defense was SUPERB and kept Ohio from running the ball. Maybe their coach should have prepared (Ohio) for a massive defense from the Gators. Then they would have lost by a closer margin. ~joni (was rooting for Ohio, too)

Florida = SEC Champs
SEC = SECond to none
OSU = Big Ten Champs
Big Ten = Big Tired
OSU = Badly overated in a high school football conference
Florida = Best Team in the Best Conference
All things considered, do the math!
Florida vs. OSU = Florida 41 OSU 14
Big Ten (Big Tired) exposed again...When they play quality teams outside the conference, this is what happens!!!
Just ask USC what THEY thought of the Michigan Wolverweenies!
Just ask LSU what they thought of Notre Dame ( who owns the Big Tired Ten )!
SEC 41 Big Tired Slow Ten/eleven 14
The math doesn't lie
This argument was settled where it should be...On the field
