It's all about being in control and dominant. Not much to do with sex.

Power. Dominance. Psychiatric problems. It is said the people who rape and molest think its right because they lack the "morality" to know the difference between right and wrong.
"....rapists fell into 2 categories which he labeled “criminal” and “psychiatric”. The criminal rapist he viewed as a poorly educated man from the lower socioeconomic level who had a criminal record of offenses such as exhibitionism, fetishism, etc. He saw him as generally antisocial and easily influenced by his peers. The psychiatric rapist was viewed as a well educated man from a higher economic bracket. He was believed to rape because of some personal problems or inadequacy and he may feel remorse after the assault. However, these are not generally accepted theories but are considered a stepping stone to more indepth research. A more widely accepted theory is that most rapists seem to come from a subculture of violence whose values may be different from those of the dominant culture. Therefore these adolescents and young men may be demonstrating their toughness and masculinity in a more violent and antisocial manner."

Not an expert-
Rape of a stranger is not such a big percentage of rape as we thought, but it's the one we think of. Think that's about power.
Date rape is power, too, I guess, but not quite the same thing. What if a man rapes a woman who has given of herself freely for months, years?
Basically, the man is a porcupine, not human at all. Porcupines have to rape their females to get any children out of them. It is a sick fact of life, for some species.
Yeah, the rapist is a porcupine, not a human at all.

Most men do it to destroy the lives of women. It is rare where someone gets raped by a stranger it is someone you know. Some do it because you did not want to date with them and unfortunately you would not know as the victim. The thing is rapists don't have the courage and guts to propose and as much as they've destroyed their own lives they want to destroy the lives of others. In my view men rape out of jealousy and anger of their bad experiences. Some do it to prove to show their friends that they are "men" and they can go to the extreme of doing things.

I believe that it's similar to the psychology of a thief who steals what isn't really his. Ask what could motivate him to do that, and you might draw an analogy.
I've heard the "act of violence, not sex" theory, but I'm not convinced that that's true, because it obviously involves BOTH violence AND sex.

It is supposedly an act of violence rather than being a sexual act. It makes him feel powerful.
