Every year it comes, every year I'm single. I managed to get through Christmas in my loneliness, but how can I stave off the pink hearts of Valentines? Is there no respite?

yeah, but you should remember the other days of the year as well, when there's no motivation to be nice to one another, and when people in relationships are mostly lying and cheating and being very dastardly.
you have to take the rough with the smooth, but then so does everybody else. cards and flowers surely don't make up for a year of crap, do they?
.......and that's just how bitter and twisted i have become in my old age ;-)

being single on valentine's day is a BLESSING not a curse
think of all the money you'll save
cards, candy, dinner, gifts, time etc.
Also, if you're 'on the market' and looking for someone, there will be a lot of lonely, single girls out there looking for someone. Just make yourself social and available, and there you go

My thoughts exactly!!! I'm trying to avoid Valentines day like the black plague, although my reasons differ then yours. When cupid strikes , my time is up, baby! To resume my marriage again, scares the he-- out of me! So I would enjoy your single days of loneliness, you may want them back someday.

Love yourself.
Dress yourself in pink or red, or your absolute favorite color.
And don't spend money on it; that's exactly what Hallmark would have you do!
