This is a fairly common problem. As several people have already suggested, you can try cleaning out the drains. There is a possibility that is the problem. Even if it isn't the major cause, it can contribute to the problem.

More likely though, is that the new machine pumps out the water faster than the old one. That is actually a more common reason for this problem.

If that is the case, there are few good solutions. The only one that I have ever seen work is to increase the volume of the standpipe. That is the vertical pipe that the washer outlet goes into. The bottom of that pipe is tied into the house's drain system.

This standpipe fills up more quickly than the house's drain can empty. The water that can't drain stays in the standpipe untill it finally drains into the house's system. While that should only be a very few minutes, it is important.

One thing that I have done is to replace that standpipe with one that is much larger diameter and longer. That way it holds more water. You can made this out ot PVC drain pipe, it is quite simple.

I have seen people with a large basin for the water to dump into. It has the same effect as the standpipe. It is simply a place for the water to stay while it is slowly draining. Decades ago, having that was fairly standard.

First thing I would do is check and make sure the drain hose is inserted properly. If it is, and you still have overflow, you could have some blockage in the drain that was not noticed with your old washing machine because it did not pump water into the drain as fast. If you are comfortable doing so, try and clear the blockage. If you have no idea how to do so, call a plumber.

If your old machine was a hook over drain into a larger pipe and it was a few years old then you could have a build up of dirt in the drain pipe into which the machine pipe hooks. When you moved the old pipe out the muck was dislodged and stuck in the pipe at the first bend. If you cannot poke it then try some of the chemical for unblocking pipes and s bends. That would probably do it.I had the same trouble and the cause was as above. Best of luck.

do you mean the drain behind the machine where you put the u shaped waste pipe from the machine ?

If so, its likely that the pump on the new machine is faster at draining or the machines internals are slightly higher than your old one.

You can raise the pipe on the wall a bit, or seal in the machine pipe rather than relying on it resting in place. Provided your outliet to the outside is clear you will have no problem doing this.

provided your pipe is 32mm or bigger it will be able to cope with the machine. Maybe try flushing a drain cleaner ( mr muscle etc ) down it

your drain pipe must be blocked. New machines have a capacity of pushing out water faster then the old ones did to save on enery costs.
Check your pipe or get a bigger diameter pipe put in for the expelled water

Did you hook it up correctly?
Ours overflows and so we just have a hose from the washer running to a drain in the basement.

new washer has a new pump, which bring more gpm into your drain, check your trap it probably has a small clog, which would impeed flow, as well how is the air vent ? I wish you the best, it's hard to say without being there.

You need to check with the company that sold your the washer machine and check your drain for lints maybe the new washer is cleaning better and more cotton is in it.

suggest the drain might be blocked, could cope with the amount coming from old washer but not new one.

If the drain is overflowing then it is obvious that you need to clear the drain out.
