First, your "friend" should talk to a lawyer. Second, they CAN come after you, but the question is will they. The easier course for them is to pursue your "friend". The mortgage this is definately true, as she still has the asset. On CC's, if "she" is a joint account holder they share liability, if "she" is only an authorized user "she" has no liability, but creditors will try to tell "her" she does. If HE was an authorized user on an account opened by your "friend" then she is liable.
Finally, she needs to talk to a lawyer and legally seperate her finances from his anywhere she can.

Let this be a lesson to everyone who thinks it is a good idea to mingle finances before marrying.

the creditors dont care who pays for the payments as long as its paid. They will however go after who is the primary person on the loan, then if they cant get them to pay they will go after the next person who is the cosigner. She will not will any suing case against her friend for leaving the country. Whoever is the primary loan signer no cosigner will be resposible and whos credit will hurt.

You can't run from creditors. Your friend NEEDS to involve an attorney & get legal papers on this guy's part of the debt, so he has to pay & if he does not pay, it's his credit that is messed up, not hers.
