The answer is 2800 miles.
If 1 inch = 800 miles, it is a simple ratio which works out as follows:

1" = 800 miles
3.5" = how many miles?
Let's say 3.5" = x miles

Therefore 1"/3.5" = 800 miles/x

meaning, by cross multiplying, x*(1/3.5) = 800 miles
Implying that: X = (800*3.5)/1 = 2800 miles

1-Convert 1/2 to decimal by dividing 2 into 1: ans=0.5.
2-Write 3 1/2 as 3+.5 = 3.5.
3-Multiply 3.5 inches times 800 miles per inch to get 2800 miles

Get a bigger map. The ratio shouldn't substitute measuring instruments. a million: 4224000 is how the size must be represented. bear in mind that's right away line distance and does no longer evaluate topography, roadways and so on. that's in basic terms 2800 miles by applying air with non-limited airspace.
