I know this is a really stupid question but I have just gotten my period and it's incredibly painful, having horrendous PMT (which for someone suffering severe clinical depression isn't good) and really heavy. It's my birthday weekend and it's the last thing I need. Is there any way of stopping it?

Unfortunately no you can't because your body needs to shed the lining fully for health reasons. It might sound odd but nibble regularly on something with carbs but not too high in refined sugar - like a crackerbread or something. This will help maintain your blood sugar-level and make any mood swings more manageable.

Also, drink lots of fluids in case your blood pressure has dropped.

For future purposes I'd visit your doctor if I was you and see about going on the pill or something as this can and really does make a difference to your periods.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. Firstly, you cannot stop it once it starts and you MUST NEVER try The blood that you lose helps to wash away the lining of the womb that has built up ready for a fertilised egg either. There are plenty of things you can do that will help with the problems that go with this You can take evening primrose oil, starflower oil, Agnus Castus and Dong Quai capsules. Evening primrose you should take all year round but some women get headaches with this,so starflower oil is the next best thing. Dong Quai and Agnus Castus help to keep your hormone levels on an even keel. DON'T take all of these together. Evening Primrose or Starflower oil with either Dong Quai or Agnus Castus and if they dont work you can take Black Coshosh in place of DQ or AC.For stress you take St Johns Wart and if you suffer with Migraines then take Feverfew Capsules. These are all bought from any health shop. Remember that all herbal medicines take a little time to get into the system so be patient

I have heard that starting or stopping birth control pills can interrupt your period but that is just a rumor that you should ask your doctor about.

BTW Someone suggested you take codeine, I say don't unless a doctor gives it to you. Some people are deadly allergic to it.
I lost allot of wieght in one day last time I had codiene. I would rather be fat then deal with that again.

Cutting back on your caffeine can help ease your period (It did mine anyway)

Get some help for your depression as well. I have suffered with severe pain for years and as a result I was/am depressed.
While I still have some big hurdles I am now feeling better physically and mentally. I am even singing again. I am so glad I finally broke down and got some help. And my pills are only 25 dollars a month from Wall mart. Even I can afford that. They help me sleep too!

I don't know if it works, but my mom swears it's true.

My mom got her period on her wedding day, and my grandmother told her to drink 2 full glasses of pure lemon juice(squeeze some lemons- not lemon juice).
Apparently, according to my mom it stopped for about 2 days, before it came back.
Hey, it's worth a shot, right?
Good Luck!

No you can't. You have to live with it like the rest of us. Take some paracetamol and codeine and also any tablet which will cure you of the gotten disease.

If anyone can solve this question they must be god themselves?

Wouldn't it be great if we us women could choose when we have our periods?
