The lite can do everything the original can do, including wifi.
The differences are both cosmetic and functional.
The lite has a smaller form factor and reduced weight, smaller D pad, relocated microphone and start select buttons. Because of the smaller size, GBA cartridges stick out a little bit but sit flush inside the original DS.
Other changes include a different ext. connector for charging the unit, a larger stylus, no longer includes a thumb stylus on the wrist strap, improved screen durability and brightness with 4 levels of brightness, all of which are brighter than the original. The lite also has improved battery life and comes with a cover for the GBA slot.
The lite also comes in a greater variety of colors.
