Never try to clean soil from a carpet when its wet and never put more water on it. All you'll be doing is pushing the dirt down under the carpet and then you'll never get it out.
Now that you've Vacuumed the area, let it dry completely. Then vacuum again until all that's left is the stains on the carpet fibres. Then use a foaming carpet cleaner on the area and vacuum it up again. Don't scrub or soak a carpet ever. Rent a carpet steam cleaner if your vacuuming doesn't do a good enough job.

Get a big pan of hot water w/some detergent added & swished to make bubbles. Use a washcloth to scrub the carpet & a clean towel to blot the cleaned area. Repeat as necessary.

Let it dry, vacuum some more. If there is still is a stain, use a mild detergent diluted in water to wash the area. rinse with clean water to get rid of the soap. blot dry.
