We are paying for that. We are also paying for gang members to have their tatoos removed. We are also paying for them to have access to the internet. We are also paying for them to have art supplies, musical instruments, fitness machines, on and on...I , stupidly, thought they were being punished. Prison is the way to go for a lot of people because they have it better than they do out here!

Because when society decides to take custody of a person, society becomes responsible for their basic needs -- food, clothing, shelter, health care, physical safety. The constitution bars cruel and unusual punishment, and forbids deprivation of life liberty and property without due process. If we just threw people into prison and made them starve or allowed them to suffer and/or die from common illness that could be treated, that would be effectively torture. The Constitution forbids it.
Of course, the Constitution does not require luxury accommodations; it is prison after all. And the Constitution doesn't require the world's best doctors or 5 star food (ask any prisoner; most will say one of the top 3 or 5 things about prison is the terrible food, after boredom, sanitation, and violence). But the basic responsibilities are shouldered by society if we choose to lock people up/.

Damn Skippy we are... why, because law makers think that because we imprison criminals the least we can do is make them comfortable. Hell, they even have laws to protect the death row inmate from inhumane execution. It really doesn't matter how the person the prisoner killed suffered, inhumanely I may add.
I like the AZ sheriff that has his jail in the desert. They even have to wear pink underwear. He's my hero in the jail system.
Don't get me wrong, I love my country, I've lived in another one to appreciate and love this one even more.... but some of the laws that are dubbed "the American way" ... can be a little screwy.

Yes, we pay for all the services provided by the state and the federal government. There's nowhere else for the money to come from.
We pay for public health inspectors, fire services, police, the army, and all the other things, like prisons, that are a part of a civilized society.

Ale- dazzling certainly........ the place are those racist comments you consult with in bombshell's reaction? as a results of fact she asked if Mexico replaced into investment coaching for illegals? She has a valid subject and apparently somewhat extra uncomplicated sense than some human beings. Rodrigo-You sound like a candy youngster and that i'm hoping you do no longer take offense to this yet- do no longer you notice that human beings have been too tolerant of illegals. we've shown kindness that they have taken for weak point and for this reason we are throughout the time of this place. Why do human beings pick to neglect in regards to the certainty that illegals take benefit, non-end. And in case you think of the guidelines on your united states are a shaggy dog tale, what do you think of in regards to the mockery illegals make out of our rules right here interior the U.S.? does not do lots to win the sympathy vote.

Yes we do pay for prisons and the rest of our American justice system via taxes. Another one of those necessary evils.

We pay for it when they are in jail or on the street. I've always wondered. If I have to take a drug test in order to hold a job so I can pay taxes and support these people, why don't they have to take a drug test before receiving their Welfare check ?
