Several things slow down boot time on a Windows computer, here are a few things to look for:

1) You have a body of information stored on your computer called a "profile". It basically holds a lot of the information you use: temporary files, internet history, browser cache, as well an permanent stuff, like files and password info. You can find this stuff by going into "My Computer", selecting your C: drive, and selection "Documents and Settings". You should see a directory with your user name. Browse through this directory. It's generally safe to erase anything that's in a TEMP directory, and there will be a couple of these. You can also delete anything in a History directory. Clean up anything else you recognize as being unneeded. The smaller the profile, the quicker you boot.

2) You may have unneeded programs loading when you boot windows. To examine this, go into the Start menu, click on Run, and type in "MSCONFIG". This will bring up a menu that allows you to see what programs and drivers boot on startup. Most of these will be necessary, so be careful here. Go through the "Services" tab and the "Startup" tab, and uncheck anything you know you don't need. Once again be careful, because if you uncheck something you need, you will have a problem. The next time you boot, windows will be remind you of the change, and ask if you want to make it permanent, so you will have an opportunity to reverse any errors.

3) Run virus and adware scans.

You might be needing a RAM upgrade, or clear off some space on your harddisk. You may want to check your antivirus, spyware, temporary internet files, and defrag as well.

Sounds like you could be using Microsoft Windows?

Ensure you have no spyware and that your disk isn't fragmented.

If you've done all that already, then simply re-install Microsoft Windows to get the speed back.
